“The time has come”, the Walrus said,
“To talk of many things:
Of template files, cascading styles,
And bundles made of strings,
And why SharePoint is boiling hot,
And whether pigs have wings.”
As you may know, the cornerstone of Microsoft’s new modern SharePoint sites is a technology called the SharePoint Framework. This framework allows you to write web parts that run on existing “classic” web pages and also the new “modern” pages, providing a nice transition from old to new.
BlueMetal is ahead of the game; we’ve been developing with the SharePoint Framework for nearly a year already, and have been building “future-proof” web parts based on a similar pattern for a few years now. Those “future-proof” web parts have been pretty easy to port, with over 95% code reuse!
Yesterday, BlueMetal’s Bob German published an article on “HTML Templates and CSS in SharePoint Framework Apps”. This explains how to leverage HTML templates, especially in AngularJS web parts. If you’re planning to develop with the SharePoint Framework, or are just curious about what’s going on, please check it out!
